The Plano East Senior High Band continues to be ranked one of the best high school band programs in the country. The Plano East Band Cluster received the Dale C. Harris Exemplary Band Program Award in 2000 by the American Band Directors Association. This award is given to one high school band program in the United States annually. The Marching Panthers have brought home a First Division Sweepstakes award for Marching all 22 years since the school opened. The concert bands have continually been ranked Best In Class at nationally adjudicated festivals throughout the United States. The Wind Ensemble was one of a handful of bands from around the world featured at the MidWest Band and Orchestra Clinic and Conference in Chicago, Illinois in the fall of 2001.

The Plano East Marching Panthers first appeared at the Texas State Marching Contest in 1998, and again in 2000. In 2001, at the Duncanville Marching Invitational, the Marching Panthers captured Outstanding Percussion, Outstanding Winds, Outstanding General Effect, Outstanding Marching, Outstanding Musical Performance, and Outstanding Visual Performance caption trophies, and were named the Grand Champions of the 2001 DMI Festival.
The Plano East Band, on and off the field and the stage, continues to represent Plano East at its best. The students involved are among the top in their classes and in the school overall. The highest work ethics and standards are demanded, and nothing but each individual's absolute best will make the cut.
The Plano East Band truly is THE hardest working band around.
